Hypertension
and CV Risk: What have we learnt and what do we need to do now?
Objective:
Guidelines base their recommendations on the same premise: that a given
reduction in BP, as measured in the clinic, results in a given improvement in
outcome, as demonstrated in trials. However, results of recent comparative
trials cast doubt on whether the relationship between BP lowering and outcomes
benefit still exists at relatively low BP, and/or in particular patient groups.
Facts and fallacies will be explored.
